Everything you might want to know about Somni, dreams and your stars.
Getting started
What is Somni, and what does it do?
Somni is an AI dream journal that reads your dreams alongside your birth chart. You speak or type a dream, get a personalised AI reading, and see it connected to your chart, plus a fresh daily cosmic briefing each morning. Its tagline says it best: "Where dreams meet destiny."
Who is Somni for?
Anyone curious about their dreams, astrology, or both. It suits dream journalers, people who follow Western, Vedic or Chinese astrology, and anyone who wants a short, calm moment of self-reflection each morning.
Why should I use Somni?
Most apps treat dreams as isolated curiosities, and most astrology apps give you a chart with no link to your daily life. Somni brings the two together, so your dreams and your chart can be reflected on side by side. It turns a fleeting dream into a simple daily ritual of noticing, journaling and reflecting.
What if I know nothing about astrology or dreamwork?
That's completely fine. Somni does the calculations for you and explains readings in plain language, so there are no charts to decode or jargon to untangle. Just record your dream and read what comes back; you can explore deeper whenever you feel curious.
Do I need to remember my dreams every night to benefit?
Not at all. Even a single fragment, a feeling or one image is worth logging, and the daily cosmic briefing is there every morning whether you remember a dream or not. Recall often improves with the simple habit of noting something each morning.
Who makes Somni?
Somni is an independent app built in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by founder Srinivas Krishnan. It is actively developed, with frequent updates on the App Store and Google Play.
How do I start?
Download Somni from the App Store or Google Play and try it straight away in Guest Mode, no account needed. For chart-based readings, add your birth date, time and city to build your Blueprint.
How do I record a dream?
Just speak it. Somni is voice-first: tap record when you wake, talk in fragments, and AI transcribes it for you. You can also type if you prefer.
Dreamwork
Why do we dream?
Nobody knows for certain, and scientists still debate it. Leading ideas suggest dreams may help us process emotions and memories, rehearse responses to challenges, or reflect the brain making sense of its own activity during sleep. Most likely dreams serve more than one purpose, which is part of what makes them so fascinating to reflect on.
Are there different schools of thought when it comes to dreams?
Yes, several. Freud saw dreams as disguised wishes, while Jung saw them as messages from the unconscious full of personal and archetypal symbols. Modern theories include activation-synthesis (the brain weaving a story from random activity), the continuity hypothesis (dreams reflect our waking concerns) and threat simulation (dreams rehearse dangers). Each offers a different lens, and none has the final word.
How can I improve my dream recall?
Record your dream the moment you wake, before moving or checking your phone for anything else. Lie still for a moment and replay any image or feeling, set a gentle intention before sleep to remember, and keep a regular sleep routine. Logging something every morning, even a fragment, tends to strengthen recall over time.
Do dreams have universal meanings, or are they personal?
Mostly personal. Some symbols are common across cultures, but what a dream means depends on your own life, memories and feelings. That's why Somni gives readings based on your dream rather than a one-size-fits-all dream dictionary.
Can Somni help me understand recurring dreams?
Yes. Free users get 2 Pattern Analysis runs and a Weekly Dream Summary, plus 7 days of Mood Trends. Pro unlocks Pattern Analysis without the 2-run limit, recurring symbols, your AI dominant theme, the Pattern Guide and Mood Guide chats, and 30- or 90-day Mood Trends. Patterns are a prompt for reflection, not a diagnosis.
How does Somni interpret my dreams?
Somni gives personalised AI dream readings powered by Claude, not a generic dream dictionary. Each reading looks at the symbols, emotions and themes in your dream, and you can ask follow-up questions about a specific dream in the app.
What are Dream Art and Cosmic Art?
Somni can turn your dreams (Dream Art) and your day (Cosmic Art) into AI-generated artwork you can keep. Every user gets one free image to try, shared across Dream Art and Cosmic Art; after that, art is part of Somni Pro. Pro members can create up to 7 images a day and regenerate each dream's image up to 3 times.
Astrology and dreamwork
How does the astrology feature work?
You add your birth date, time and city, and Somni calculates your charts across six systems: Western, Vedic, BaZi, Zi Wei Dou Shu, Numerology and Human Design (BaZi and Zi Wei sit together under one Chinese tab in your Blueprint). These feed your Blueprint, your daily cosmic briefing and your chart-aware dream readings.
How does astrology connect with dreamwork?
Somni treats your dreams and your chart as two views of the same inner landscape. Blueprint Says (Pro) reads a dream in light of your natal chart, such as the signs your Moon or Venus sit in, so you can reflect on how the two might echo each other. It's a lens for self-reflection, not a prediction.
Do I need to know my birth chart to use Somni?
No. You only need your birth date, time and city, and Somni calculates everything for you. You can even log dreams and get readings before adding any birth details.
What if an interpretation doesn't resonate?
That's perfectly normal, and you know your life best. Treat any reading as one possible perspective: keep what feels meaningful and let the rest go. Tap Go Deeper to ask the Dream Guide anything about that dream and explore it from another angle. Free users get 3 messages a day in total, shared between Go Deeper and the Dream Guide; Pro conversations allow up to 30 messages each.
How can I explore my dreams through both psychological and astrological perspectives?
Start with the AI dream reading, which looks at symbols, emotions and themes, the psychological side. Then look at Blueprint Says (Pro) to see the same dream through your natal chart, and compare the two. Journaling what each lens brings up for you is often where the real insight lies.
What is the daily cosmic briefing?
Every morning the Today tab gives you a fresh reading across six life areas: Career & Purpose, Love & Relationships, Mind & Clarity, Inner Life, Energy & Body and Growth. Free users get the Western lens; Pro unlocks all six lenses.
What is the Daily Synthesis?
The Daily Synthesis shows where your astrology systems agree and differ for the day, summed up in one reading. It is free for everyone.
What is the Celestial Blueprint PDF?
Pro members can export their full Celestial Blueprint as a detailed PDF covering every system, generated in seconds.
Can I check compatibility?
Yes. Love Compatibility compares your chart with another person's across four traditions: Western, Vedic, BaZi and Numerology. Everyone gets the score out of 100 for free. Pro unlocks the full AI reading, the PDF export and Vedic Guna Milan, the traditional 36-point match.
Applying insights
Can dreamwork help me in my daily life?
Many people find that reflecting on dreams helps them notice feelings, worries or hopes they hadn't put into words. A morning moment with your dream and your daily briefing can be a gentle way to start the day with more self-awareness. Somni is for reflection and enjoyment, not a substitute for professional advice.
Can I set goals?
Absolutely. Somni lets you set up to 3 goals, from the Today card or from Profile → My goals. After a reading, try noting what the dream or your briefing brings to mind about one of them, and check in the next morning.
Does Somni offer guided meditations?
Somni doesn't offer guided meditations. Its reflective practices are dream journaling, AI readings, Go Deeper questions and your daily briefing. Morning Oracle on the Journal screen gives you a reflective card in the morning (every day on Pro, 3 times a week for free users), and Pro members can learn Lucid Dreaming Techniques.
What is Realm Journey?
Realm Journey turns your dream practice into a journey from Drifter to Archetype across 7 realms. Streaks, shields and milestones help you keep the habit going.
Features and trust
Can Somni track my sleep?
No. Somni doesn't track sleep and doesn't connect to Apple Health, Google Fit or wearables. It focuses on dream journaling and astrology, with a morning reminder that adapts to your wake time and shareable cards such as your Big 3.
What happens to my personal information?
Your dream entries are private to your account. Somni does not sell your personal data for money, and we do not share your dreams, birth details or readings with advertisers. To create your readings, your dream text is processed by our AI provider (Anthropic's Claude). Like many apps, Somni uses analytics, crash reporting and purchase services, plus an advertising SDK used to measure ads. On iPhone you choose whether to allow tracking through Apple's tracking prompt; on Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings. You can delete your account at any time. The full details are in the privacy policy at mysomni.app.
Is Somni a replacement for professional advice?
No. Somni is designed for entertainment, personal reflection and self-exploration. It is not a substitute for professional medical, mental-health, financial or legal advice.
Can I use Somni without an account, and will I lose my dreams?
Yes, Guest Mode works without an account, and guest dreams stay on your device. If you create an account later, they move across automatically; if you uninstall without one, they are deleted.
Which devices does Somni work on, and can I delete my account?
Somni is on iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.4+) and Android, in English. You can delete your account in the app or by emailing info@mysomni.app; deleted data is removed within 30 days.
